ROSCOE PRIMARY SCHOOL

A GUIDE TO THE FULL OPENING OF OUR SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2020

Version 1

July 15th 2020

The information in this document forms part of an ongoing consulation with all stake-holders, any input should be directed to the Head Teacher, Mrs Karen Hutchings.

Actions, descriptions and processes outlined in this guidance document and any subsequent versions are based upon advice given by Public Health and Liverpool City Council in order to keep the whole school community safe. We are constantly working under the principles of PROTECT AND PREVENT.

This document will be reviewed weekly throughout September so that any changes deemed necessary through either policy or practice can be made swiftly to protect the whole school community.

During the current pandemic, advice and guidance may change very quickly and we will endeavour to react to such changes with the health, safety and education and well being of our while school community.

Introduction

It is expected that all children, in all year groups will return to school full time from the beginning of the Autumn term.  We will continue to support parents and children in returning to school with confidence during these very uncertain and worrying times.

Whilst we are planning for full and continuous opening we must also consider the need for us to respond to outbreaks of Coronavirus at school, in the local community, within the city and nationally. This will form part of a separate document detailing a staged approach to outbreaks.

The following information sets out a guide to the school day and how we see this will be undertaken. It is subject to change as we trial the processes on the return of the children .

Breakfast club that takes place before the start of the school day will only be accessible to working parents. This is to reduce the number of children in the club at any one time.

However there will no breakfast club on Thursday 3rd or Friday 4th September. This is to allow us to register those working parents that require this provision and to risk assess numbers.

In practice – Children of working parents can arrive from 8am each day and should use the usual entrance on Ballantyne Road.

Every child will be on a class table, spaced as far apart as possible and will not be allowed to wander around the hall. Breakfast will be toast or cereal with fruit juice. There will be no charge for this provision.

Breakfast At School

All children will have access to a breakfast snack on entry to school in their class bubble during registration time.  This will be a toast or some cereal with fruit juice. There will be no charge for this.

Staggered Start to the School Day

Class Bubbles

Once the children are in class they will be in their own class bubble and movement around school will be limited as will interaction with other bubbles of children. Staff will also restrict their movement and interactions around school.

Each class bubble will have a named colour so that parents and staff can readily identify it on timetables and signage.

Whilst in class, furniture will be arranged facing forward; the virus is more likely to be spread when children or adults are facing each other. We know that by all children coming back into bubbles with 30+children, social distancing of 2m is not possible; we will therefore encourage all children to remain as far apart as possible.

All unnecessary furniture and equipment will be removed from the classroom and remaining equipment will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.

Uniform and Equipment

All children are expected to wear full school uniform, clean on every day if possible.

Children will store their coats and PE bags on the back of their chairs; cloakrooms will be out of use due to the restriction of space.

Each child will be provided with their own pencil case containing all the stationery they need to do their work and activities. Children should not bring in stationery or other items in from home; therefore school bags are not required. Those children who bring in packed lunches will be asked to store these either on the back of their chair or under their chair.

Children may bring in a water bottle labelled with their name, this should be taken home each day; any water bottles not taken home will be discarded at the end of each day. Any child who doesn’t bring in a water bottle will be provided with a plastic cup for the day.

Lunch Time

We will continue to run a school kitchen on our return to school. However, during September, we will be providing a sandwich lunch to all children who are eligible for free school meals or whose parents pay for their lunch. This will be reviewed at the end of September.

Lunches will be eaten in class bubbles to reduce the amount of social contact around school and in the hall.

Paying for School Lunches

Like many shops, school will no longer be accepting cash. We are currently looking into using a cashless system or you may undertake a bank transfer. We will be in touch at the start of the autumn term to provide further details.

Cleaning and Hygiene.

School will have a full time cleaner who will be on site throughout the school day, she will be responsible for cleaning classroom bubbles when the children are out at break, she will also clean surfaces such as handrails and door handles and toilets will be cleaned often.

ALL children will be asked to wash their hands with soap and water throughout the day, especially on entry to school after breaks, before eating and after using the toilet. Hand sanitiser is also available and encouraged. Parents may wish to send in hypoallergenic hand sanitiser for their child if they are sensitive to the school’s own but this must be labelled with the child’s name and left in school at their workstation.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

In line with current scientific guidance, children are not required to wear face coverings. However, parents may choose to provide their child with their own face covering.

Staff will only wear PPE when caring for a child who becomes ill during the school, whilst administering first aid, when social distancing is impossible or if a member of staff has an underlying health condition that puts them at further risk should they contract COVID.

Break Times

Whilst outside for break times, the children will remain in class bubbles in designated areas of the school playground. Any equipment used will be cleaned regularly.

Home Time

In order that the number of children and adults on the school site is kept to a minimum there will be staggered ends to the school day.

Children will be picked up at the same place that they were dropped off in the morning.  The class teacher/ teaching assistant will bring children out of school at their specified time. We ask that only ONE PERSON ENTER THE DESIGNATED PICK UP ZONE PER CHILD and parents MUST EXIT THE SCHOOL SITE AS SOON AS THEY HAVE PICKED UP THEIR CHILD.

After School Club

Afterschool club will only be available for working parents and will take place in the school dining hall on designated class tables.

Afterschool club will now work in the revised times of 3.30 – 5pm to allow for deep cleaning at the end of the day.  There will be a reduced cost of £5 per child per night.

There will be no after school club in first week back. This is to allow for registration and safe numbers to be calculated.

IN THE EVENT OF A SUSPECTED COVID POSITIVE CASE OR OUTBREAK.

Should a child become unwell during the school day with suspected Coronavirus, they will immediately be isolated from the rest of the school community and their parents rang.

We will then advise the parents to book a COVID test as soon as possible and to let us know

  1. The date and time of the test
  2. The outcome of the test

Should the child test negative but is still displaying symptoms we will ask that that child self isolate for 14 days.

Should the child test positive all children within their class bubble will immediately be sent home to self isolate for 14 days. If any of the children in the bubble develop symptoms during that time parents should book at test and immediately inform school of the result. Staff from the class bubble will also need to self isolate for the 14 days quarantine time.

It is also vitally important that parents inform school of any contact that their child may have had with any other child or family from school socially (outside of school time).

The current guidelines state that an ‘outbreak’ of Coronavirus is deemed 2 COVID positives within a two week period. This may result in partial or whole school closures.

We will be guided by Public Health England at all times.
