Inclusion and Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) at Roscoe Primary

At Roscoe Primary, we believe every child is unique and deserves an education tailored to their individual needs. This page provides key information about how we support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they feel valued, included, and empowered to achieve their full potential.

Our Aims for Children with SEND

We are passionately committed to supporting every child's learning, development, and overall well-being – both physically and emotionally. Our core aims for children with SEND are to:

  • Understand Individual Needs: Meticulously identify and understand each child's unique learning profile so we can provide tailored support.
  • Ensure Full Access to Learning: Enable every child to enjoy and access a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum, adapting it where needed to suit their individual strengths and challenges.
  • Remove Barriers & Promote Participation: Actively help children with SEND take part fully in all aspects of school life. We achieve this by offering the right support, strategically using extra resources when helpful, and proactively removing any barriers that may affect their learning and development.

our sen support approach

At Roscoe Primary, we adopt a 'whole school approach' to Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). This means all staff members are fully dedicated to ensuring the inclusion and success of every pupil.

We use a dynamic 'Plan, Do, Review' cycle, also known as The Graduated Approach, to support children with additional needs. This systematic cycle ensures your child receives the right support at the right time:

  • Plan: We collaborate to clearly identify what your child needs help with.
  • Do: We put specific support strategies in place to help them progress.
  • Review: We regularly check how things are going, evaluating what's working well and what might need to change, continually adapting our approach to meet their evolving needs.

Embracing True Inclusion

We are incredibly proud to be a truly inclusive school. This means we wholeheartedly welcome and celebrate all children, regardless of their individual needs, abilities, or backgrounds. Every child is incredibly important to us, and we work tirelessly to ensure they feel:

  • Included: A deep sense of belonging within our school family.
  • Supported: Confident that help is always available.
  • Empowered: Able to thrive and reach their fullest potential.

We kindly ask that all parents, carers, and visitors actively support our inclusive values. For us, inclusion means making sure everyone feels they belong and has equal opportunities, irrespective of their background, ability, or specific needs. It's about treating everyone fairly, proactively removing barriers, and genuinely respecting each other's differences.

At Roscoe Primary, we firmly believe that understanding and valuing each other's differences strengthens our entire school community. We actively promote a culture of respect, empathy, and a joyous celebration of diversity in all its forms—whether that's learning style, language, culture, or ability. These values are deeply woven into our teaching practices, our classroom environments, and our whole-school activities, ensuring that inclusion is not just a principle, but a daily practice lived by staff, pupils, and families alike.

Our dedicated Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) is Mrs. Dutton. She is here to answer any questions or queries you may have about SEND support during your child's time at our school. Please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Dutton directly at school on 0151 226 1536.
