Hello and welcome to our Reception Page!
My name is Mrs Fretwell, and I am very excited to introduce myself as the new Reception teacher at Roscoe! We also have the fantastic Miss Woodward to help us with our learning this year in Reception! I will be updating this page with important dates and information, as well as photographs of all the exciting activities we have been doing at school!
The children have had a great start to the year and are settling in beautifully! Please make sure you discuss what your child would like for lunch each day before they come to school, as they will be choosing first thing in the morning during our register time! The lunch menu should be updated weekly on the website! Our P.E day is Thursday, so please make sure your child brings there P.E kit in school next week. We will have water available all day in class, however if you would like to bring a labelled water bottle for your child that would be brilliant.
Our topic this half term is ‘All About Me’
If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to ask Miss Woodward or myself as we are always here to help!
I am looking forward to working alongside you, to ensure our children have the best start to their journey at Roscoe Primary School!
Thankyou for your support, Mrs Fretwell :)
We had lots of fun at our stay and play today. We've been making beanstalk pictures, building beanstalks, building castles, planting beanstalks, counting beans and practicing our Funky Big Bear song.
Welcome to a new week and a new book. This week we will be learning all about Jack and the Beanstalk.
Jack and the beanstalk will also lead into our maths lessons as this week we are re-enforcing our counting, number recognition and number formation.
Can we please say a MASSIVE thank you to all of the parents who turned up to help clean our Wild Woods on Saturday. You have all made such a huge difference in there and I can't wait to let our children explore and play in there.
This week we have been doing lots of fun activities relating to the Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have read the story, acted it out, wrote about it, compared our caterpillars to the hungry caterpillar, looked at healthy and unhealthy food, looked at the life cycle of caterpillars and even made a display.
We are currently writing a recount about the story, however it is still not finished. Once it is complete, we will showcase it on our corridor along with our display.

Hello and welcome to our Reception class page
I am Miss Lyson, the Reception teacher who will be updating this page throughout the year, keeping you up to date with everything we do in school. In reception we are very lucky to have two FABULOUS teaching assistants, Miss Radford and Mrs Dever. We are an amazing team who work together to ensure your child is happy, safe and provided with a fun and stimulating learning environment.
This year we have a new classroom, as we have moved down to the EYFS base. As well as having our own classroom we get to interact with the Nursery children and staff during provision time. The children get to choose were they would like to play, either in our classroom, in nursery our the great outdoors.
Our topic this half term is 'Ourselves'. We have spent a lot of time getting to know each other and learning to follow our rules and routines. We have also been completing baseline assessments of each child, allowing us to assess the progress your child makes throughout the year.
I will be updating this page with pictures, information and any events we may have in Reception, so please keep checking in....Miss Lyson 😃
I would also like to say a quick thank you to all our parents who attended the Macmillan Coffee Morning and a big congratulations to Frankie who won the 'guess the amount of sweets' competition 🍬🍭🍬🍭
The learning that takes place in Reception and the Early Years is completely different to any other year group. We have a big focus on learning through play and following the children's interests. This document provides you with information on what to expect of your child in all 7 areas of development. http://www.foundationyears.org.uk/files/2015/03/4Children_ParentsGuide_2015_WEB.pdf
