It's summer term!
Welcome back to all of our families and I hope you had a lovely Easter holidays.
We have got a really busy term coming up so keep checking for any key dates and information coming your way!
We will be continuing with our daily letters and sounds phonics in order to give your child as much support for their upcoming phonics screening check. I will be sending a practice pack home in the coming weeks containing sound mats, real and alien words and a list of websites which you can access to support them at home!
I would like to thank you for your support with reading with your children at home, they have made so much progress within recent weeks and your hard word is really showing. The children have also made great progress with their creative writing by following the Jane Considine scheme.
This term in Maths we will be moving on to fractions and time, as well as continuing to improve our arithmetic and problem solving skills.
Homework will be set on a Monday and collected on a Friday.
Each week, children will be set a piece of Maths and English homework, in addition to this, to continue to improve your child's reading, we encourage you to complete 10 minutes of reading each evening.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our curriculum afternoon on Thursday 25th April where we will be exploring flowers. We will be making 3D flower vases, paper oragami flowers and drawing flowers using water colours.
Thank you all for your continued support. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to speak to Mrs McArdle or myself,
Thanks again Mrs Black
Welcome to Spring term!
This term our theme is 'Space' and this will continue through to our Art lessons where will be making some out of this world creations. Our class read will be 'Aliens love Underpants'. The children will love this and provide a fun way to revise listening, comprehension reading skills.
We are continuing to develop our phonic skills with 'Letters and Sounds'.
In Maths we are starting our times tables and building on our addition and subtraction skills.
Today we have planted our runner bean seeds. Our Science topic is 'Plants and how they grow' so over the coming weeks we will watch and learn how they grow into seedlings.
PE will be on a Monday. Homework will be given out on a Friday to be returned by the following Wednesday.
We are looking forward to a fun filled term with lots of new and exciting learning opportunities.
Thank you for continued support and as always any queries please do not hesitate to speak to myself or Mrs McArdle.
Welcome to Year 1!
My name is Mrs Davison, I am the class teacher and in our class we also have the fabulous Mrs McArdle. We are very excited to be working with this wonderful class this year.
We have had a lovely week settling into all our new routines and lessons.
This term our theme in literacy is based on the book "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak.
Homework is sent home on a Friday and is due back by the following Wednesday. This will be related to subjects that your child has been learning about that week.
Reading books are sent home every night. Where possible please read with your child and make a comment in their reading records so we know they have been listened too at home.We will listen to your children read three times a week in school.
P.E. is every Tuesday, kits can be left in school and sent home every half term for washing. Each child needs school t-shirt, shorts and pumps or trainers.
We have two class bears, Braden Bear and Bella Bear. Each week these bears will go home with a different child and their diary. Please help your child write about what they have done and draw a picture.
For example a visit to the park or a trip to the supermarket. If you want to stick photographs in please do.
