Class 6Q

Welcome to Class 6Q!

Hello and welcome to 6Q's class I am Miss Quayle and along with the fantastic Mrs Cosgrove we are going to be providing an exciting year for our fabulous Year 6's! smiley

Our topic this term is the Ancient Greeks, we will be looking at the aspects of their daily life and the religion that they followed especially the Gods including all of the favourites such as Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. We will be linking both our Art and DT topics to the Ancient Greeks creating Vases that tell a story along with Mosaic coasters.

This half term we will be participating in an Ancient Greek day where we can dress up and join in the various activities that the Ancient Greeks completed on a regular basis.  Photos and updates of all our Ancient Greek activities can be found on our class twitter page @roscoeprimary30.

During our English lessons we are currently focusing on Action Stories with a particular focus on 'A Monster Calls' a brilliant novel written by Patrick Ness. We will be looking at the different sentence structure and with the help of Jane Considine's FANTASTICs making our writing the best it can be!

Within our foundation subjects we are going to be learning about lots of exciting new things, such as in Geography focusing on our local River - the River Mersey thinking about the source of the River and how it leads into the Liverpool Bay before joining the Irish Sea.

In Science we are going to be looking at living things and they habitats and being able to classify both plants and animals.

Every week children will be receiving both English and Maths homework, English to be given on a Tuesday and due in on Friday and Maths to be given on a Friday and due in on a Tuesday.

Children will also have weekly spellings to learn and times tables along with their reading which should be completed on a daily basis with a reading record that is to be signed by an adult and returned to school every day.

During the autumn term Year 6 are also going to be swimming on a Thursday afternoon at Peter Lloyd. Children will need to ensure they have a full swimming kit including cap which can be purchased at the school office. On Thursday's we will be returning later which means pick up time will be 3:30pm.

As well as swimming children will have their PE lessons on a Tuesday afternoon where a full PE kit is required.

We will be keeping you updated with all of the fun things that we do on this page including pictures of our time in Year 6.
