Hello and welcome to 5/6H
My name is Mrs Hayes and Mr Jones is our TA.
A lot of exciting things are happening in 5/6H this half term!
Our topic is the Groovy Greeks where we get to learn about the culture and life during Ancient Greek times. We will be launching our topic with an Ancient Greek Day in school.
Our current English topic is Film Narrative, and we have chosen to base our learning around the fantastic book 'The Nowhere Emporium' by Ross MacKenzie. At the end of the unit, we will create our own stories based on the book.
In Reading Reasoning, linked to our Ancient Greek topic, our chosen book is 'Who Let the Gods Out' by Maz Evans. Elliot's mum is ill and his home is under threat, but a shooting star crashes to earth and changes his life forever. The star is Virgo - a young Zodiac goddess on a mission. But the pair accidentally release Thanatos, a wicked death daemon imprisoned beneath Stonehenge, and must then turn to the old Olympian gods for help. After centuries of cushy retirement on earth, are Zeus and his crew up to the task of saving the world - and solving Elliot's problems too?
Our class read is Swimming to the Moon by Jane Elson. I read this book over the Summer holidays and I can't wait to share it with you.
We are also learning about Living things and their habitats in Science. We will learn about life processes, food chains and classify plants and animals. In Music we are learning to perform 'Livin' on a Prayer' by Bon Jovi. In Art and DT this half term, we will be looking at Greek Pottery. From sketching Greek pots to making small clay pots and papier mache vases.
Please follow our learning through our class page here for photographs and videos of all our exciting lessons and be sure to follow us on Twitter @rosoceprimary6 for all the latest news.
Every week children will be receiving both English and Maths homework, English to be given on a Tuesday and due in on Friday and Maths to be given on a Friday and due in on a Tuesday.
Children will also have weekly spellings to learn and times tables along with their reading which should be completed on a daily basis with a reading record that is to be signed by an adult and returned to school every day.
During the autumn term 5/6H are also going to be swimming on a Thursday afternoon at Peter Lloyd. Children will need to ensure they have a full swimming kit including cap which can be purchased at the school office.
As well as swimming children will have their PE lessons on a Monday afternoon where a full PE kit is required.
