Class 1P

Welcome to Class 1P

Hello and welcome to 1P’s class page!

My name is Mr Bruce and alongside Mrs McArdle and Mrs Hutton I teach the wonderful 1P! Our topic this term is the Seaside and children will be learning all about our beautiful British coastline. Children will learn the names of seas surrounding the UK, how a beach is formed, compare Victorian seaside holidays to those in the 1950s and today as well as answering many more questions that children will have.

In English children will be looking at fantasy settings in fiction, eventually writing their own stories, set in space, for a class book. We will also learn how to write questions using question marks, about common prefixes and suffixes, as well as using ‘and’ and ‘because’ in  a sentence.

In Maths children will learn the number bonds to 20, the names and properties of 2D shapes, become more confident adding and subtracting and solve practical and word problems amongst many more maths concepts.

Children also have a specialist singing teacher coming in every Wednesday to teach children singing skills. If you have the chance, please ask them to perform “1, 2, 3 it’s good to be me!”. Don’t forget the actions!

Towards the half term children will also be designing and creating a product as part of Roscoe Primary School’s very own Dragons’ Den challenge! We will be discussing what our product might be, creating a presentation to pitch it to the Dragons, then designing, making and finally selling the product as part of a school competition to earn the most money.

Homework will be sent out on a Monday and is due in every Friday, and will include spellings to learn for a test during the week.

It promises to be a great half term full of learning and fun for Year 1. Please check back soon for updates on how 1P are progressing!
